Social Inclusion Programme

DISABILITY RIGHTS

Afghanistan, Kabul, Herat, Mazar, Jalalabad, Kapisa, Faizabad, Helmand. 2022-2023. Beneficiaries: approximately 20,000 people with disabilities.

In June 2022, NOVE signed an agreement with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to implement a Social Inclusion Programme for people with disabilities. Based on the agreement, NOVE manages ICRC's social inclusion programme, bringing to it the expertise of its board member Alberto Cairo, who has been in charge of ICRC's physical rehabilitation programme for over 30 years.

The programme consists of three operational areas. One is dedicated to social inclusion through sports activities, education, vocational training, microfinancing and job placement.

The second focuses on home care for people with spinal cord injuries and their families. The third, called Safety Net, supports people with disabilities who are household heads facing particularly difficult economic conditions.

The ICRC-NOVE agreement helps to protect the rights of persons with disabilities. "People with disabilities in Afghanistan are among the most vulnerable, and the agreement with NOVE will ensure the continued support of tens of thousands of men, women and children with life-changing services," said the ICRC Head of Delegation in Afghanistan.
