Futuro Presente / Future Present

The project Futuro Presente / Future Present provides personalised help to residents in Italy who have a medium-high level of vulnerability, to help them overcome a moment of emergency and foster their socio-economic inclusion.

Almost all the people involved in the project are women and minors living in poverty, either relative or absolute. Among the adults, there are many foreigners who do not speak Italian and therefore have difficulty relating to each other and finding employment, and people without higher education qualifications, or with qualifications not recognised in Italy. The minors mostly include unaccompanied foreign minors (MSNA) or those belonging to (often single-parent) households, some of whom suffer from serious illnesses/disabilities.

In summary, Futuro Presente / Future Present supports the most fragile persons in terms of gender, age, origin, life history and other determining factors. Interventions take the form of support for 'emergency' and exceptional situations through the provision of monetary contributions, to meet healthcare costs or other unmet basic needs such as housing. A second type of intervention consists in the provision of 'dowries' that allow participation in vocational courses, responding to needs wishing to acquire new skills but lacking the economic resources to do so.

To unaccompanied foreign minors, we offer support in learning the Italian language, education and vocational training. We also contribute to their physical and psychological well-being by funding sports activities.

The project provides a number of supplementary services in addition to those provided by the state and works to build networks with other organisations, collaborating with various Third Sector organisations, Social Cooperatives that manage Reception Facilities, Municipal Social Services, Area Social Plans and Parishes. This allows the implementation of targeted and punctual interventions, in which each subject has specific roles and tasks determined by its own competences.

The continuous monitoring of all interventions makes it possible to assess whether the support plan is working, to carry out follow- up and to decide on possible reshaping.
