Beyond the Rubble
Emergency food response following the earthquake
In Afghanistan, more than 14.2 million people are living in conditions of acute food insecurity, 2.9 million of whom are facing emergency-level conditions (2025 – IPC – Afghanistan – Acute Food Insecurity). The earthquake that struck the eastern provinces in late August 2025 severely disrupted access to markets and created additional obstacles, deepening the ongoing food crisis.
In situations like this, immediate access to food is essential for the survival and safeguard of affected families. Beyond the Rubble, based on available funding, carried out an emergency distribution of food packages in the Dara-e-Noor district (Nangarhar province), sufficient to cover the food needs of over 1,100 people from 166 of the most vulnerable households for approximately a month and a half.
Families were selected through a transparent process, carried out in coordination with the local community, prioritizing widows, families with children under five, households with no income, and families with members with disabilities.
Beyond the Rubble is an emergency intervention designed to provide life-saving support in the aftermath of the earthquake and to help reduce acute food insecurity.
