The opportunity for a new life. Nazifa's story.

As a child, Nazifa longed to study, but was never able to go to school. She felt that she was missing something important saying, "I sometimes felt as if I had a veil over my eyes. I also got into trouble because I couldn't read". There were too many things she could not understand or know. While doing household chores one day, she threw away some of her parent's important documents because they just looked like ordinary paper to her. She always had the doubt that people in shops were cheating her because she couldn't add up prices or check if she received the right change.

Over time, she resigned herself. She stopped hoping, thinking she was too old now to go to school. When she turned 18, she heard about the free literacy courses organised by NOVE. The hope she had given up on was rekindled. She begged her family to let her register and they gave her permission to do so. "Now I can read shop signs, prescriptions and even little stories. I've learnt how to do the grocery shopping... I feel like a different person. I'm happy and much more confident".
